Counseling and leading activities for groups of children in a summer camp
Yeni Sakran, Izmir       July 19 - July 29, 2019


Volunteer project: Summer camps for groups of children will be organized in a youth center by the seaside. Each camp lasts one week. In the first week, we will have Turkish and international teenagers aged 14-16 whose families are financially supporting this holiday. The main theme of this camp will be shooting a short film. In the second camp, we'll have a group of disadvantaged Turkish kids aged 10-14. The funds raised by the family supported camp in the first week are used to support the camp for disadvantaged kids so they can have a holiday in the same center.

The volunteers will be counseling a group of kids/teens and leading several activities for them. The volunteers will share the responsibilities of the leading team to take care of a group of kids/teens including field trips and all kinds of activities.

Please, note that you will be dealing with the kids/teens through the given and intensive program all day long. You will spend most of your time with them in the camp area with a limited private life. Thus contact with the locals is very limited; however, you will have contact with the people working in the campsite. Volunteers may have fun together only after the kids go to bed and the team covers the daily late staff meeting. Leaving the camp area is not allowed due to unexpected emergency cases. Teamwork is essential.

We are looking for communicative, talkative, active volunteers to organize activities for kids and teens and to take care of them during the activities. The teen group will create a short film in the camp with the help of volunteers. Experience in short film making, as well as skills in any sport (like basketball, volleyball, swimming, football, table tennis, chess), arts and crafts, music, dance, drama, in and outdoor group games is preferable.

Special requirements: A motivation letter with a pass size photo and Skype ID should complete your application.

Accommodation: In the Youth Centre, in 2-3 bedded rooms with toilet and shower. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. The counselors will eat together with the group of children they are responsible for.

Let's make a film
Yeni Sakran, Izmir       July 19 - July 27, 2019


Volunteer project: This is an international thematic camp for the age group 14-16. Teenagers from different countries will create a group film in a youth center by the seaside. The majority of the group will be Turkish teens, but the camp language is English.

The volunteers will make a short film using hand cameras and computers. They will use their creativity and express their ideas to write the scenario, act, shoot and direct their own film in this project. Besides filming, the daily program of the project will also include other activities like sports, arts & crafts, creative drama, music, etc. Turkish and international volunteers will be leading or assisting the daily activities.

The Youth center is a place where various voluntary and youth camps are hosted. The project site is safe and secure, and participants will not be allowed to leave the campsite on their own.

Arrival and departure: Airport transfer may be organized upon request but only from Istanbul Atatürk Airport (in the European side) on July 19, Friday, between 8:00–17:00 hours, at the cost of 10 Euro. The group will depart to the project site on the same evening by overnight coach together with the Turkish participants and the group leaders.
The teen participants will also be accompanied on their return to Istanbul on July 27, Saturday. The group will arrive in İstanbul in the evening and a bed+breakfast hostel will be arranged for them for the night of 27th at a cost of 20 Euro. The return flight tickets must be arranged for the next day, July 28, Sunday from Istanbul Atatürk Airport. There will be a direct shuttle from the hostel to the airport at a cost of 10 Euro.
Alternatively, you can also fly to Izmir Airport on July 19, Friday. The project site is 1.5 hours by taxi from Izmir Airport.

Improving an old road linking "button house" villages in Antalya
Akseki, Antalya       July 25 - August 9, 2019


Volunteer project: A unique construction technique of the area makes Akseki world famous. Long timbers among dry stones make the houses stronger. Villages around Akseki town are full of such houses. An old caravan road connects the villages. Participation in this project will make you feel like living in the old times. As the altitude of the location is quite high, you will also enjoy a clear sky almost every night.

Volunteers will work on the old road linking the villages, mainly clearing the scrub and bushes. Other tasks will be waymarking, route clearing, garbage collection along the walking route.

Arrival and orientation: The project will start in Istanbul with an orientation meeting that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the project. The group will travel together to the project site by an overnight coach on the same evening.

Making dreams come true for disadvantaged children
Yeni Sakran, Izmir       July 28 - August 10, 2019


Volunteer project: “Children's dreams come true” is the motto of this special project, designed for disadvantaged children. The volunteers will be counseling a group of children aged between 10-14 years old, leading different activities for them. You will share the responsibilities of the leading team to take care of a group of kids from the beginning till the end of the camp, including field trips and all kinds of activities.

Assisting the kitchen team in Math Village education center
Sirince, Izmir       3 projects of 3 wks from July to September


Volunteer project: The Math Village in Sirince needs small groups of up to five international volunteers for different daily tasks during the summer. This project will give you a chance to meet Turkish students and young people who will be participating in mathematics courses in the center between June 1st and September 15th.

The volunteers will be mostly helping the kitchen team of the education center. Their tasks include cutting, washing, slicing vegetables, cooking meals, preparing salads, setting up tables and serving food to the students, washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, etc. Some outdoor work is also possible on some days.

Math Village was created by a university professor aiming to endear math to young people. The village is over 10 years old. Around 200 math lovers gather in this center during the summer holidays to learn, exercise and study math. International and national math professors are voluntarily sharing their knowledge with the young students.

Accommodation: Under the supplied tents. Sleeping bag and mat are necessary. If you prefer privacy, you can bring your own tent.

Location: Sirince is a small village in the west of Turkey. The center is only a 15-minute walk from the village. Please be aware that the place is a bit isolated - no night life or TV at the center, but there is Internet connection. Sirince is a very attractive village and is famous for its homemade wines and its traditional architecture. The nearest town Selcuk is the home of the world famous Ephessus open-air museum. The nearest city Izmir is one hour away by bus.

Intercultural learning program for disadvantaged university students
Yeni Sakran, Izmir       July 29 - August 9, 2019


Volunteer project: With contributions of different NGOs, an informal and non-formal education program is offered to socially and economically disadvantaged youth to empower them. We try to give equal opportunities to low income youth to participate in a learning-by-doing program. 20-25 university students from different cities of Turkey will have a chance to experience intercultural learning and different activities during this project. Including 2 group leaders, the majority of the group will be Turkish. The group members might not be able to speak any foreign languages but are highly motivated to communicate with the international volunteers.

We are looking for 5 volunteers/counselors who will be organizing, running and leading activities for the university students in different areas such as practicing English, sport, drama, music, chess, indoor-outdoor games, handicraft, dance, etc. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old with experience in the above-mentioned activities or group leading. Non-formal education experience is preferred. As the level of English of the camp participants will be very low, the volunteers/counselors should be talkative, encouraging, communicative, patient, talented and ready to teach.

Special requirements: A motivation letter including Skype ID should be sent along with the application form.

Fable workshop in Bergama
Bergama       September 2 - September 16, 2019


Volunteer project: The project participants will support a local workshop and experiential association that works to improve production, development, sharing and social benefits. It was created to stand as a model in Turkey that aims to formulate and set up intellectual and practical workshops to benefit Bergama's people. This new experiential project will be carried out in a small village, 6 km away from the city center of Bergama. The workshop will include fable telling, fable performances, fable actions, fable drawing, fable with music, fable film-shootings and fable experiments from all around the world.

Volunteers who have an expertise or a strong interest in that field can lead fable workshops. Volunteers' help is also needed for maintenance and improvement of the workshop site: taking care of the site, trees, vegetation, some renovation and construction.

Accommodation: Housing will be provided either in the city center or near the village.

Location: Pergamon (Bergama) is 2400 years old ancient city designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. The city has a population of 50.000. It is about 20 minutes drive from the Aegean Sea and forested highlands. There are 114 villages nearby with an additional population of 50.000. All villages have distinctive culture, environment and local cuisine.

Preparing for the olive harvest
Sirince, Izmir       October 20 - November 9, 2019


Volunteer project: Math Village is a math summer school located in the nature, which owns over 1000 olive trees and harvests about 20 tons of olives per year. The oil produced from the collected olives is used in the kitchen of the summer school.

Math Village needs volunteers to work on the olive yard before the harvest. This involves hard physical work: hoeing the soil, cutting and removing dead branches, clearing and leveling the ground, removing stones, etc.

Language: English

Accommodation: In student dormitories for 6 people each. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary.

Location: Sirince is a small village in the west of Turkey. The camp site is 1 km from the village. No night life or TV is available at the center, but there is internet connection. Organic olive farm project
Yeni Sakran, Izmir       October 21 - October 28, 2019


Volunteer project: The Youth Center in Yeni Sakran is a place where programs and activities are organized for disadvantaged youth and children, disabled people, teenagers and kids. In order to supply the annual olive and olive oil stocks, the center will host volunteers to pick up and process olives from the garden.

Volunteers will collect olives from the trees, separate according to quality, pack, make stripes on olives, etc. There is a chance to see olive oil making process in a factory. As the youth center will be shut after this project, the volunteers will be asked to help move some things and do some cleaning work as well, as part of their daily work.

Olive picking experience in Turkey
Sirince, Izmir       2 projects of 3 wks in November and December
