Planting trees in Mongolia

Volunteer project: Deforestation is a serious problem in Mongolia. Before 1990, forests covered 10% of the country, but only 7% today. This is caused by uncontrolled tree cutting, forest fires and global warming. On the other hand, it takes a long time for trees to grow, and May and mid-October are the only times for planting trees in Mongolia.
Volunteers in this project will plant trees in several areas around Ulaanbaatar and Buhug river. There's increase in reforestation activities by some organizations but it takes many years for trees to grow, so we'll also join this movement.
Special requirements: Participants are expected to like planting work and simple nomadic life.
Language: English
Leisure time: Cultural exchange program, excursions, etc.
Accommodation: A house or Ger (traditional Mongolian tent). Volunteers need to bring a sleeping bag.
Location: Ulaanbaatar. Half of the population of the country lives in the capital city. Buhuugiin Hural is located 45 km from Ulaanbaatar.
Terminal: Ulaanbaatar, Chinggis Khaan International airport or International train station of Ulaanbaatar
Age range: 18 and over
Extra fee: 250 USD
Pick up and drop off service is available upon request from/to the airport or the train station in Ulaanbaatar. Transportation to and from the project site on the first and last day is also provided.
The extra fee is intended to support the local host of the project who does not have sufficient funds. It is due upon arrival.
Farming and organizing activities in a Children's Home
Altanbulag, Tuv Province 13 projects of 2 wks from May to August
Volunteer project: Since 2000, volunteers from all over the world have been participating in our summer programs designed to help improve the vegetable farm in a Children's Home in Mongolia. However, between 2014-2018 they decided to discontinue their farming activities due to the lack of human resources and the unavailability of farming land. In 2017, we managed to rent farming land for the Children's Home, and they resumed their farming activities on this new land. As a result, our cooperation with their farm restarted in 2018. One of the main roles of the international volunteers will be assisting with the farming work at the Children's Home.
The main works include planting vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, radishes, etc. at the eco-farming camp and organizing leisure time activities with kids from the Children’s home. Volunteers may also work on other tasks such as making fences to protect the farm, etc.
Study part: Activity ideas for children and eco farming methods/know how from other countries.
Special requirements: Participants are expected to like farming/manual work and be flexible and adaptable.

Teaching English to students in Ulaanbaatar
Ulaanbaatar September 4 - September 17, 2025
Volunteer project: The project is organized with one of the secondary schools in a suburb of Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. The country has a 12-year school system. Until 1990, students used to study Russian only as a second language, but since 1990 they have the chance to study other languages as well. However, the quality of English language teaching still needs improvement.
The volunteers' main task will be to teach English to the students. This could also be done through informal activities such as singing songs, playing games, etc. The group will also help with some renovation works in the school. We may also do some workshops with the children on environmental awareness and forest protection.
Study theme: English teaching methods from the volunteers' countries and the future of the volunteer movement in Mongolia.
Special requirements: Participants are expected to like working with kids and to be flexible and adaptable.
