Youth empowerment project
Sirao, Cebu       April 5 - April 17, 2017

Volunteer project: In this project, we collaborate with the Cebu City local government through the Barangay Sirao government to promote local youth empowerment. The aim is to promote love of local village life as well as develop rich intercultural understanding of local culture. The project also aims to assist the renovation of a barangay community facility as part of the youth’s contribution to social service related endeavors.

With the support and assistance of Cebu City local government, the volunteers will engage in the following activities:
- Organization of a youth camp
- Assisting in the renovation of a community center (refurbishing, repainting and beautification)
- Interacting with local children and youth through art, sports and team building activities
- Cultural exchange through music, games, food, language, etc.

Language: English

Leisure time: During leisure time, volunteers can choose to visit various cultural heritage sites, eco-tourism adventure activities or head to the nearest pristine white sandy beaches around the island of Cebu.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in a house. Please, bring your own sleeping bag. Filipino food will be prepared by the local community and the volunteers are encouraged to assist so they can become familiar with the traditional Filipino way of preparing and cooking food.

Location: Barangay Sirao is located in the northern mountainous interior part of Cebu City. It is one of the remote barangays of Cebu City and rural life is very evident. Cebu City is the second biggest city in the Philippines that is rich in cultural and heritage sites.

Cebu City is known as “The Queen City of the South” having a very rich cultural heritage. It is a center of Catholic Religion that draws millions of Filipinos flocking to the city during the month of January to celebrate the Feast of Senior Santo Nino as well as the most awaited world renowned Sinulog Festival.

Extra fee: 250 Euro
The extra fee is intended to support the local host of the project who does not have sufficient funds. It is due upon arrival.
