Teaching foreign languages to Moroccan children and youth

Volunteer project: This project is the result of a partnership with the local community. The aim of the project is reinforcement of the language capacities of children and youth with fewer opportunities. In this project, we will try to gather both Moroccan and international volunteers.
The volunteers will teach one or two foreign languages (English / French / Spanish / Italian / German) to children and young people of the community. Volunteers' main tasks include teaching, organizing activities and preparing lessons. Besides the language classes, the volunteers and the students will also participate in theatre, seminars, excursions and cultural activities. The volunteers will work five days a week, five hours a day, with two days off per week.

Duration of the project: The volunteer placements in Rabat and Casablanca are from 2 to 12 months. The placement in Essaouira is from 5 to 12 months.

Orientation: The volunteers attend a two-day orientation upon arrival to learn more about the project and the Moroccan culture.

Accommodation: The volunteers will live at a host family.

Providing care and activities for children with disabilities in Rabat
Rabat       2 - 12 months

Volunteer project: In this project, volunteers will work with an association that supports children with trisomy. Their mission is to work for the dignity of persons with Down syndrome, for ensuring decent living conditions for them, to respect the uniqueness of each individual in the spirit of tolerance, openness and solidarity.

The volunteers will organize educational workshops (dance and corporal expression, fine arts, origami, paper recycling, gardening) and sports activities (physical conditioning, golf, horse riding, judo, football). The volunteers will also help with school activities and teaching assistance, as well as stimulation activities for the kids (otophone, kinesitheraphy)

Special requirements: The volunteers are not required to have any previous experience. The center is looking for enthusiastic, positive, patient and respectful people, who are willing to support children with disabilities to learn new skills and develop new relationships in ways that they choose and at a pace they feel comfortable with.

Location: Rabat is the capital and fourth largest city of Morocco with an urban population of approximately 580,000. Located along the Atlantic Ocean, Rabat has a mild, temperate climate, shifting from cool in winter to warm days in the summer months. The biggest theatre place is the Theatre Mohammed V in the centre of the town. The city has a few official galleries and an archeological museum.

Education and social activities for disadvantaged children
Rabat       2 - 12 months

Volunteer project: The volunteers will work in a children's center which gives social protection and ensures the welfare of disadvantaged, vulnerable and marginalized children in Rabat. The center provides safe upbringing and education to abandoned and innocent children and babies, and prepares them for their integration into society.

International volunteers are invited to help the center by supporting the staff with the daily care of children. The work is varied and you must be flexible in tackling your tasks. It could involve education, recreation and supporting the children to return and participate in mainstream life. The volunteer duties may include organizing fun activities and entertainment, cultural and social events, playing with the children, helping them with the homework, teaching them English and other foreign languages, singing. If you have ideas about teaching different kinds of activities such as games, songs, arts and crafts or sports and athletics to children, then this type of project is for you! You will need to take a creative and flexible approach and be prepared to undertake variety of tasks.

Providing support and leisure activities for disabled children
Sale, Casablanca       2 - 12 months

Volunteer project: The volunteers will support Centers for children with disabilities in Rabat/Sale and Casablanca. The volunteers will join the staff in their efforts to provide activities and care for children with various forms of disability, to create a nice environment for them and bring joy in their lives.

The main work will be assisting the staff in their daily activities for the care of physically disabled children. As a volunteer, you will be involved in individual goal setting and planning for holistic development of children with disability through home-based approach. You will also organise leisure and social activities for the children. Flexibility and openness to all kinds of works and activities is needed. These children are discriminated and rejected by mainstream society and therefore volunteers are needed to participate and bring joy in their lives, and help the centers improve their services.

Sport for social integration of children and youth
Kenitra       2 - 12 months

Volunteer project: The aim of this volunteer project is to promote social inclusion through sport, create social ties and instill positive values through collective sports. The volunteers will work with children and youth from the town of Kenitra in northern Morocco. They will use sport as a tool to encourage socialization and improve self-esteem among the youngsters.

The international volunteers, along with local participants, will organize football, basketball, handball and other games for children and youth in Kenitra. Special attention will be given to including those who have difficulties integrating into society. Also some round tables will be organised to discuss issues that concern children and youth. The local community is very friendly and are willing to support the volunteers in achieving the project's goal.
