Volunteer in Myanmar (Burma)
There are currently no openings for short-term projects in Myanmar. New volunteer projects will be announced here when available. To get an idea of what kind of programs are expected, you can check some of the past projects below.

Help a village with farming and education
Nyaung Shwe, Pindaya, Ywar Ngan, Shan

Volunteer project: Before the beginning of the international volunteer projects in these villages, the local people had very little or no contact at all with foreigners. The local young people need to improve their knowledge on globalization, English proficiency and cultural exchange. There’s also a need to educate the communities about agriculture and environmental awareness.

The volunteers will take part in the life of a village by helping the community in their field work. There will be various farming tasks such as planting, paddy harvesting, picking fruit and coffee, digging, etc. The volunteers will also teach children and share knowledge with the local community.

Language: English

Accommodation: Homestay in a house in the village.

Location: The area is peaceful and calm, with mountains, farms and rice fields around. In Shan State, there are ancient caves, waterfalls and ancient pagodas nearby.

Terminal: Yangon

Age range: 18 and over

Extra fee: 250 USD
The extra fee is intended to support the local host of the project who does not have sufficient funds. It is due upon arrival.


Volunteer in a Buddhist monastery
Nyaungshwe, Shan

Volunteer project: Volunteer help is needed in a youth development centre in a Buddhist monastery in Nyaungshwe township. There are over 1000 students of diverse ethnic groups: Paoh, Lesu, Kayan, Kayah, InnThar, Danu, Shan and Taung Yoe who come from different villages. They live in the dormitory of the monastery year round and attend governmental high school near the monastery.

The volunteers will participate in the activities of the monastery and will help the local community. They will be teaching English, sharing social knowledge, helping in the purified water factory, working on the farm and helping with construction tasks. The volunteers will be also playing with kids from the kindergarten, and cleaning and cooking for the students together with local volunteers from the monastery.

Language: English

Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated in a Buddhist monastery. The monastery also provides locally cooked fresh food for the volunteers.

Location: The project takes place in Phaya Taung village in Nyaungshwe township, Southern Shan State near Inle Lake. The area is 2000 feet above sea level, surrounded by mountains and lakes. This is a predominantly agricultural region, very peaceful and calm.

Teaching English and supporting the charity work of Buddhist monks
Naung Thayar, Shan

Volunteer project: The volunteer project takes place in Baung Yaycho Charity Monastery. There are over 120 boy students who live year round in the dormitory of the monastery and attend government high school in the village.

The volunteers will help in the school and in the local community. They will be also cleaning and cooking for the students together with local volunteers from the monastery. Teaching English, sharing social knowledge and working in the farm are also among the volunteer tasks.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated in a Buddhist monastery. The monastery also provides locally cooked fresh food for the volunteers.

Location: Located in Naung Thaya township in Shan State. The landscape consists of mountains, farms and many tropical plants. This is a mainly agricultural area, very peaceful and calm.
