Community development and farming activities in a rural village on Hainan Island

Volunteer project: The project takes place in Liren village, located about 90 km away from the main city of Haikou on Hainan Island. The village consists of 90 households, a closely related community with a very rich culture. You will experience the farmer's life in this rural China village, as there will be farm stay activities scheduled during the project.

The project activities involve:
- Developing friendship between the participants and the local students, teachers and villagers.
- Doing some farm work with the villagers in the field.
- Helping the villagers with community service projects for betterment of their living environmental such as: rebuilding the road or planting some trees, improving the sanitation, etc.
- Teaching English to the children in the village.
- Learning Chinese and local language.
- Taking part in some sport games with the students.
The international volunteer project is an opportunity for the local youths to meet friends from other parts of the world and expand their horizons.

Special requirements: Interest in social and cultural work.

Free time: Activities during the weekend will be going to the beach near the village, visiting the cultural temples, etc.

Language: English

Accommodation: The place where you will stay is a traditional Chinese style house. Conditions are simple and the sleeping place will be dormitory style. Please, bring a sleeping bag.  The food will be vegetarian.

Location: The camp is located in the midst of Liren village. Liren village is about 90 km away from the main city on Hainan Island, Haikou.

Terminal: Melan airport, Haikou. The volunteers will be picked up at Melan airport and will travel together to the project site.

Age range: 18 and over

Extra fee: 1.500 Rmb (about $190 US)
The extra fee is intended to support the hosting organization who does not have sufficient funds. It is due upon arrival on the project.

During the project, the international participants will work together with other volunteers and local students of different ages. The main activities consist of:
- Developing friendship between the participants and the local students and teachers.
- Visiting schools around Wenchang town.
- Teaching English with the local English teachers.
- Learning Chinese and local language.
- Taking part in some sport games with the students.
Along with teaching the local students English, it is very important to let them meet friends from other parts of the world, thus giving them a chance to expand their horizons.

English teaching program in Wenchang

Volunteer project: The project takes place in Wenchang, located in the Northeast of Hainan Island, about 70 km from the main city Haikou. Wenchang town consist of a closely related community with a rich culture. This is a special teaching project with a duration of one month. Just two volunteers will be participating at a time.

The project tasks include developing friendship between the participants and the local students and teachers, teaching English to local students, learning Chinese and local language, participating in some sport games with the students. The students can dance and draw, and you can also learn a lot from them.
The project is an opportunity for the children to meet friends from other parts of the world and expand their horizons.

Hainan     Different from other provinces, Hainan is the largest ocean island and the smallest land province in China. Its natural beauty has gained a good reputation among the visitors and has been widely known around the world. People call it "the Oriental Hawaii". Hainan is located at south end of China, and its neighbouring countries are Philippines towards the east, Malaysia and Brunei towards the south, Indonesia towards the southwest, and Vietnam towards the west. Due to the mild climate and favourable environment, Hainan is regarded as a long life island. Hainan now has a population of 7.11 million, among which about one million are ethnic minorities.

The hospitable villagers in ethnic villages will treat you to traditional food as well as wonderful singing and dancing performances. Furthermore, Hainan is famous for their beautiful handicrafts, like shell carvings.
The capital of Hainan is Haikou City. Located in northern part of the island, it is the political, economic, cultural and transportation center of the whole province.
