VOLUNTEER PROJECTS IN  VIETNAM

Wild animal survey and alternative tourism on motorbikes
     December 15 - December 28, 2005

Volunteer project: During the first week, the volunteers will organize a survey about the traffic of protected animals in restaurants and souvenir shops in Hanoi in collaboration with ecology organizations. The group will also organize some leisure activities with the children of the “fisher village”, a group of extremely poor families living on the Red River.
In the second week, after a short training, the group of international and local volunteers will do a big trip in the Vietnamese countryside, along small unknown roads. A unique opportunity to visit Vietnam and its small villages and to see incredible sights in a very alternative way! This trip is seen as a good tool for promoting abroad the alternative tourism in Vietnam.
You will spend Christmas along the beautiful roads on your motorbike!
You don’t need to have any experience in driving a motorbike, you will get a training (it is very easy) and you will also get instructions on the basics of mechanics but you need to be able to ride a bike.
Few evenings in Hanoi will be also spend for discussions among the volunteers about HIV, Vietnamese culture, the concepts of workcamps and how to manage well a workcamp. The volunteers are required to be flexible, self-managed, and inventive.
The volunteers will work about 6 hours a day during the first week.
Accommodation: The first week in the International Youth House. Simple accommodation, located in a nice area of Hanoi, close to West Lake and a beautiful open air swimming pool (closed in winter). The second week, the group will sleep in local hostels, in guest houses, in village houses, etc.
Free time: In the first week the volunteers will have the opportunity to visit Hanoi and other beautiful places together with Vietnamese volunteers. During the week, evenings will be used for cultural visits and exchanges, games and parties.
Extra fee: $250 US
Usually such extra fee occurs in less developed countries. It is intended to support the hosting organization who does not have sufficient funds to organize the project.  The extra fee is due upon arrival on the project.
