Volunteer project: The project is organized with one of the secondary schools in a suburb of Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. The country has a 12-year school system. Until 1990, students used to study Russian only as a second language, but since 1990 they have the chance to study other languages as well. However, the quality of English language teaching still needs improvement.

The volunteers' main task will be to teach English to the students. This could also be done through informal activities such as singing songs, playing games, etc. The group will also help with some renovation works in the school. We may also do some workshops with the children on environmental awareness and forest protection.

Study theme: English teaching methods from the volunteers' countries and the future of the volunteer movement in Mongolia.

Special requirements: Participants are expected to like working with kids and to be flexible and adaptable.

Language: English

Leisure time: Cultural exchange program, excursions, etc.

Accommodation: Youth hostel. Volunteers need to bring a sleeping bag.

Location: Ulaanbaatar. Half of the population of the country (3.2 million) lives in the capital city.

Support the educational programs of rural schools in Ecuador
Coast, Highlands and Amazon, Ecuador       5 - 10 months

Volunteer project: Volunteers are needed nationwide to teach English. Based on the volunteer’s skills and education, it is also possible to volunteer as teachers’ aid for subjects like Math, World History, Environment, Grammar, Science, etc. This project offers the opportunity for volunteers to assist students of Elementary Schools located in rural areas, where access to English teachers is limited.

The volunteer work consists in teaching basic English and Environmental lessons in rural schools with no resources, from the Coast, Highlands and Amazon. To those who have good level of Spanish, we offer to assist the children who have learning problems helping them in reading, writing, grammar, mathematics in the afternoons after school (mainly in the schools from the Coast). The schools do not have didactic materials for English lessons; volunteers are responsible to prepare these materials for the benefit of the schools, to prepare exams and evaluations, as well as, for each grade, a report about the students' achievements and goals must be given to the Principals of the schools.

Teaching kids in Ecuador

Special requirements: Basic knowledge of Spanish is required.

Language: English / Spanish

Duration of the project: Minimum time for volunteering is 5 months, up to 10 months. Volunteers can apply for the following periods:
In the Highlands and the Amazon: from September to the end of June;
In the Coastal region: from May to the end of January.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be placed in host families.

Location: The placements are in the Highlands (Quito and Cayambe in Pichincha Province; Riobamba in Chimborazo Province), the Coast (Esmeraldas in Esmeraldas Province; Chugchilan and Palo Quemado in Cotopaxi Province) and the Amazon (near Tena in Napo Province).

Education and therapy for special needs children in Quito
Quito, Ecuador       3 - 12 months

Volunteer project: Within this program, international volunteers will support children with disabilities. The school offers programs for children to prepare them for their future and to teach them how to become independent individuals. The aim of the project is to provide education to children with motor disabilities and to facilitate the acquisition of skills and their integration into society. Volunteers interested in this project will need to stay a minimum of 3 months, in order to follow up with the children’s progress.

The volunteers will assist the teachers in providing physical therapy, language therapy, counselling, pre-employment training, sports and recreation to the children. Volunteers will be taking care of the children, playing and teaching them new games. The volunteers will also help the children during lunch time, helping them to learn how to eat by themselves.

Children of the Andean highlands and the Amazon

Special requirements: Basic knowledge of Spanish is required.

Language: English / Spanish

Duration of the project: Minimum time for volunteering is 12 weeks, up to 12 months.

Accommodation: Accommodation is provided in local host families.

Location: Quito is the capital city of Ecuador. It is a developing city with more than 2.5 million people. It is located in a valley surrounded by mountains at 2850 meters above sea level.
Quito is a city rich in history and culture. It has the largest and best preserved historic center in Latin America. The monument of the Middle of the World is located in Quito, as well as many other tourist and gastronomic attractions.

Teaching English in schools in Nepal
Nepal       2 - 5 months

Volunteer project: The volunteers will be teaching basic English in schools in different regions of Nepal: Kathmandu valley, Kaski (Pokhara), Tanhun, Lamjung, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Nawalparasi district. One or two volunteers can be placed in a school at a time. Saturday is holiday and Friday is half holiday in Nepal. Nepalese schools start at 10:00 am and close at 4:00 pm. The volunteers will be teaching 3 to 5 classes a day. Each class is 45 minutes long.

The volunteers will get an opportunity to participate in a 3 days orientation seminar at our training center in Kathmandu. The seminar aims to provide volunteers with basic knowledge about the education system of Nepal, detailed information about the project school, Do and Don’t issues, Nepali language, culture, dress, food, etc. The orientation seminar will start on the first Monday of each month.

Special requirements: Relevant qualifications and skills are appreciated. Positive attitude, respect and an open mind are obviously very important, as well as an interest in discovering the Nepali culture.

Language: English

Duration of the project: 2-5 months. The volunteer placements start on the first Monday of each month.

Orientation: Volunteers attend a 3-day orientation seminar at a training center in Kathmandu before the start of the project. The seminar aims to provide basic knowledge about the Nepalese education system, culture, dress code, food, as well as detailed information about the project, the school, Nepali language classes, etc. The orientation seminar starts on the first Monday of the month. During the orientation, accommodation is provided in a dormitory in Kathmandu. Also, a full day culture and heritage tour in Kathmandu is included, to visit a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Accommodation: You will live with a Nepali family close to the school, and experience their hospitality, friendliness and immerse yourself in their unique lifestyle. You’ll be welcomed as a member of the family and of the local community. At least one member of the family will speak English. Nepali houses are simple, with basic facilities. Most families do not have hot showers, but most of them have western style toilets. Just don’t expect to find the same facilities as in your home country. You’ll get your own room and the family will respect your privacy. You will be served food twice a day: breakfast around 9-10 am and diner around 7-8 pm. You’ll soon realize that tea is the most popular beverage in Nepal: whenever you visit a family you’ll be offered a cup.

Arts and crafts education for children
Nepal       2 - 5 months

Volunteer project: The volunteers will teach arts and crafts to children between 6 and 15 years of age. The program is conducted in community schools in or around the Kathmandu valley, Pokhara, Tanahun, Lamjung, Chitwan, Makwanpur or Nawalparasi district. The schools are always in need of more teachers and it will also be possible to teach other subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science. One volunteer can be placed in a school at a time.

In Nepal, the school day starts at 10:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm. You’ll have 3 to 5 classes a day, each class lasting 45 minutes. Saturday is a holiday and Friday is a half-holiday. When not in school, you will share your everyday life with your host family.

Special requirements: Formal teaching experience is not required, but any relevant skills and qualifications are appreciated. Strong motivation and interest in Nepalese culture are expected.

You will be welcomed as a member of the family and the local community. At least one member of the family will be able to speak English. Nepali houses are simple, with basic facilities. Most families do not have hot shower, but most of them have bathroom and toilet. You’ll get your own single room and the family will respect your privacy. Please bring your sleeping bag. In the countryside, many Nepalis grow their own vegetables and have buffaloes, goats and chickens. You will typically be served food twice a day: a heavy breakfast around 9 am and dinner around 7 pm.

Location: Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, Tanahun, Lamjung, Chitwan, Makwanpur or Nawalparasi district. You can stay in secluded villages where people live in very traditional ways. This is a great opportunity to explore the real rural Nepal. You can also opt for a more urban and modern Nepal experience in the bustling and fast-growing cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Teaching computer science in schools in Nepal
Nepal       2 - 5 months

Volunteer project: The volunteers will be teaching Computer Science in schools in different regions of Nepal: Kathmandu valley, Kaski (Pokhara), Tanhun, Lamjung, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Nawalparasi district. One volunteer can be placed in a school at a time. Saturday is holiday and Friday is half holiday in Nepal. Nepalese schools start at 10:00 am and close at 4:00 pm. Special requirements: Good knowledge in computers, relevant training and skills are appreciated. Good motivation, flexibility and cooperative spirit are expected.

Accommodation: Most of the long term volunteers will stay with Nepali families near to the school. Staying with a Nepali family is very interesting - you will be welcomed as a member of the family and as a member of the local community as well. Nepali houses are simple, using very basic facilities. Most families do not have a hot shower, but most of them have bathroom and toilet. Please, do not expect facilities like in your country! However, volunteers will get their own single room and enough Nepali food Dalbhat. There is a two time food system in Nepal: heavy breakfast around 9am and dinner around 7pm. Tea is very common - when you visit a family, they will welcome you by serving tea!
